Artist Insights: Michael Corr at the London Graphic Centre
Award-winning painter and muralist Michael Corr will be showing off his skills at the London Graphic Centre this September. Working predominantly with Daler-Rowney System3 acrylics, Corr will be exploring the vibrant world of the Koi fish, displaying his unique style and playful finish on our billboard. We had the pleasure of chatting with Corr to gain insight into his approach to making art.

How would you describe your art?
My paintings, drawings and murals are mainly portrait-focused and combined with my vibrant, expressive signature marks which I create through crossovers between creative disciplines with acrylic, cans and oil on canvas, paper or brick. I also enjoy changing mediums and materials regularly and seeing where it takes me.
The Professional Watercolour Revival Collection is more than just a new line of products; it’s a tribute to the rich history of watercolour painting. Winsor & Newton, with over 185 years of experience, has poured their expertise into creating a range of colours that not only match the brilliance of their historical counterparts, but also surpasses them in terms of quality and consistency.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration from all around, in videos, photos, clippings and on my travels just to give examples, which influences the art I am creating intuitively. There are so many inspirational people out there, that I won’t run out of motives and inspiration for my art.

Can you describe your process?
Idea concept, colour and composition are classic bases of my work and for building a solid foundation at the start. I am a curious person, enjoying a playful process with rollers, stencils, brushes, scrapers or markers, adding intuitive elements along the way to keep things fresh and exciting. I am always growing with every piece of art I create, and sometimes I like to just go with the flow and be free to evolve my art.
Can you tell us a bit about the London Graphic Centre Koi mural?
I am returning to the London Graphic Centre after my Francis Bacon Mural in 2022, and the brief was to go with an animal painting. We agreed to go with Koi Fishes to make the colours pop and to display the different viscosities of System3 Acrylic ink, fluid, soft body and heavy body. It's always fun to do live paintings and to meet people while painting.

What is your relationship to Daler-Rowney?
I have worked for over 5 years with Daler-Rowney and am using the System3 Collection and Georgian Oil Collection in my work, and I also support their product creation with my feedback. It is nice to have access to so many different tools and mediums to try out and play with, and it helps my art to experiment with different mediums and tools.
